Party guests dream of the American dream

The theme was ‘American Vintage’ last weekend at My Kind Of Place when X- Models hosted a party , which many night crawlers marked as the beginning of the festive season. All guests were required to dress up in American Vintage couture as per the theme.

To complement the theme the venue was adorned with American flags and the on menu of that evening was a special cocktail known as the ‘American Sweetheart,’ a blend of bourbon, rum vermouth and sour mix. Leatile Motlhalamme of X Models explained that, “Our main agenda is to promote and grow the fashion and modeling industry by infusing it with a luxury lifestyle and celebrities.

During the party, guests had an opportunity to see fashion designers who dressed the X-Models in their exquisite and elegant American Vintage collection at some stage during the fashion hour. Designers were also given the opportunity to showcase their Haute Couture collections on the run-way.  American patriotic music such as Fifty Great United States Medley added to the feel of the fashion show.

The exclusive fashion hour gave local fashion designers a unique platform to showcase and market their collections. Motlhalamme further stated that, “The more people come to these fashion events the more they start appreciating and taking the modeling and fashion industry seriously leading to growth in the profession.” Nandi Gleeson won the best vintage outfit walked away with a hamper full of goodies. Motlhalamme said, “the fashion hour created an opportunity for people who love fashion, therefore the buying power to support local fashion designers.”

American Vintage Party attracted bloggers, photographers, makeup artists, fashionistas and socialites who went there for a night of their life. The DJ’s on the decks where Déjà vu, Tosh, Sway and Pit the DJ.

New crocheting clothing line introduced

KN Crocheins is a new clothing line owned by two Batswana women, Game Neelo Mogotsi and Keamogetse Cecilia Monaka. It was founded in July 2017 and is wholly focused in Crocheting and sewing designs.


Crocheting is a process of creating fabric by interlocking loops of yarn, thread, or strands of other materials using a crochet hook. In an interview with WeekendLife, co-founder of KN Crocheins, Mogotsi said, “Crochet is an art that narrates unlimited stories and it carries a memory that resonates well with many Batswana “ngwao ke boswa jwa rona”. Our design imbues cultural meanings and self-expression from cultural perspective.”


She further said that the clothing is still building as it was just newly introduced. “The clothing line “Crocheins” is still at its infancy stage as it has to be revealed to people to get acquainted with it,” she said. Alluding to their source of inspiration she says they introduce afresh fashion sense to people by using available material to create new designs.
